Today, there are over 1.4 billion Windows 10 devices globally and Microsoft estimates that over 230 million Windows 10 devices will need to be replaced. In addition, OEMs will be shifting away from new model deployments that include Windows 10 in October; therefore, all new models developed after October of this year will ship with Windows 11 only and no ability to downgrade. This forces organizations that haven’t deployed Windows 11 to purchase older models as their only viable option.

With supply chain difficulties continuing to impact global deployment of technology, there is question as to whether or not OEMs and suppliers can meet the demand for all 230 million devices that must be refreshed in the next two years. This concern, combined with the average Windows 11 deployment project typically being delayed for six months, leaves organizations with a significant challenge and a tight deadline if not acted upon quickly.

Microsoft may offer an Extended Security Update (ESU) Program for Windows 10; however, they have not disclosed details regarding its availability or pricing. Historically, similar programs focused solely on ongoing security-related assistance, which certain sizable organizations adopted due to the extensive planning, modernization and migration required for their device and application infrastructure.

To complete this migration, organizations can benefit from services across multiple fronts including:

  • Planning, Budgeting, and Hardware Procurement
  • Resource and Staffing
  • Image Development and Asset Tagging
  • Onsite Deployment
  • Endpoint Management System Optimization
  • Device Lifecycle Services
  • Application Testing and Modernization
  • User Adoption
  • Ongoing Support and Services Desk Readiness

So where do we begin?

With a typical organization requiring an average refresh of around 30% of their Windows devices, Computacenter has developed a full spectrum of Windows 11 services to help customers at any stage of their refresh journey.

When executing a Windows 11 refresh for an organization, our process begins with a comprehensive Readiness Assessment designed to provide extensive visibility on deployment path, device and application compatibility and deployment prioritization. With insights from this assessment, Computacenter’s experts then craft a tailored solution to source, transform and manage the new hardware and modernize applications, while securely and sustainably disposing of the decommissioned infrastructure — a critical step in the Windows 11 refresh journey.
